Wildlife

Botswana is the old Africa, one of the world’s last great wilderness areas. A place of harsh contrasts and untamed beauty, parched expanses of sand, savannah and teeming game.

In Botswana there are 164 species of mammals, 550 species of birds, 80 species of fish, 157 species of reptiles and 38 species of amphibians. The majority of these species occur within the Okavango Delta region.

This list of animals, birds, reptiles and insects which feature in this section will, we hope, encourage you to keep a record of what you see during your stay at the Savute Elephant Camp. Your ranger is very knowledgeable and will be able to help you with the identification of trees, birds and animals.
